Around New York, I used to hear that expression, ‘Once a Dodger, always a Dodger.’ But how about, ‘Once a Yankee, always a Yankee?’ There never was anything better than that. You never get over it.

Not many people know my father was an actor. He was the Artful Dodger in ‘Oliver!,’ and was in a film called ‘Frauds,’ too. When I took the job as the manager of the Olympic team, I didn’t take it because I was a Dodger. I did it because I was an American, and I wanted to bring that gold medal where it belongs in baseball, the United States. And that’s exactly what our team did.
