When you deal with a person who’s experiencing dementia, you can see where they’re struggling with knowledge. You can see what they forget completely, what they forget but they know what they once knew. You can tell how they’re trying to remember.
Fusion fashion – that’s what I’m inspired by, taking all these different cultures and then trying to put it together that a girl here would love to wear.

It’s remarkable how much long-term advantage people like us have gotten by trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent.
I’m interested in what it means to be an American. I’m interested in what it means to live in America. I’m interested in the kind of country that we live in and leave our kids. I’m interested in trying to define what that country is.
A failure is not always a mistake, it may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances. The real mistake is to stop trying.
People think I have an interesting walk. Hell, I’m just trying to hold my gut in.
When you’re a little kid, you don’t see color, and the fact that my friends were black never crossed my mind. It never became an issue until I was a teenager and started trying to rap.
No matter what you do, people are always going to have something negative to say about it. You could spend your life constantly trying to seek people’s approval and validation, but there is always going to be someone that has something negative to say about what you’re doing.
I’m a student of patterns. At heart, I’m a physicist. I look at everything in my life as trying to find the single equation, the theory of everything.
I was trying to pay the bills with poems, and it was easy to memorize my poems, because I’d be riding my bike in California trying to memorize them before going on stage at a poetry lounge.
A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person. You earn reputation by trying to do hard things well.
Sometimes I just think that there are more things to be said to make the audience understand what I’m trying to do more. When I’m singing, I don’t want you to just hear the melody. I want you to relive the story, because most of the songs have pretty good storytelling.
I’m naturally a nice person. I’m not trying to have any problems with people. I’m done with the drama and trouble. I want a stress-free life.
I love having my hands in the dirt. It is never a science and always an art. There are no rules. And if it comes down to me versus that weed I’m trying to pull out of the ground that doesn’t want to come out? I know I’ll win.
There’s a constant tension in climbing, and really all exploration, between pushing yourself into the unknown but trying not to push too far. The best any of us can do is to tread that line carefully.
I have spent more than half a lifetime trying to express the tragic moment.

At least international media can see how I am trying to change the typical orthodox mindset of people who don’t want to come out of their shells of false beliefs and old practices.
The dripping… well, if it happens, it happens; it does not take anything from the work. The dripping just proves that you were not trying to control the work, but the work was developing by itself and if it drips, it’s a natural part in the evolution of the work.
Well, all the plays that I was trying to write were plays that would grab an audience by the throat and not release them, rather than presenting an emotion which you could observe and walk away from.
I’m not trying to be different. To me, I’m just being myself.
It is painful to watch children trying to show off for parents who are engrossed in their cell phones. Children are nostalgic for the ‘good old days’ when parents used to read to them without the cell phone by their side or watch football games or Disney movies without having the BlackBerry handy.
I’m trying to grow. I don’t want to stay on the same page.
I’m trying to incorporate colour into my life. Until recently, everything in my closet was black, white, grey, navy or olive.

Renunciation – that is the great fact we all, individuals and classes, have to learn. In trying to avoid it we bring misery to ourselves and others.
Survival can be summed up in three words – never give up. That’s the heart of it really. Just keep trying.
I’m just not into trying to convince people like me. I always say to myself, ‘It is what it is.’ I walk into a situation knowing that people are either going to love me or they’re not, and that’s OK. I’m just going to be me. You can’t be everything to everyone.
Art is inherently political. Even trying to make a film that has nothing to do with politics is, in and of itself, a political act.
The night before Tilbury, the Cordon Bleu gourmet dinner turned out Cordon Brown. Six out of ten to the chef for trying and ten out of ten to us for eating it.
I’m concentrating on staying healthy, having peace, being happy, remembering what is important, taking in nature and animals, spending time reading, trying to understand the universe, where science and the spiritual meet.
With ‘Badhaai Ho,’ the lines are so quirky and the situation is so humorous, awkward, and bizarre that people are taking away a lot from the film. The dialogues are amazing. We aren’t trying to make people laugh, but the situation is like that, that people are laughing.
Entrepreneurs can’t forecast accurately, because they are trying something fundamentally new. So they will often be laughably behind plan – and on the brink of success.
I try not to put anything political on the forefront of what I’m trying to do creatively. At the same time, I do think it’s wonderful when I hear people say that it’s inspirational that I’m an Indian woman on camera. My life is very diverse, and my friends are a diverse group of people.
He was a great man, my granddad, a very calm, logical and methodical guy. I suppose I’m trying to be more like him as I get older.
If Oasis is the sound of a council estate singing its heart out, then the Libertines sounded like someone just putting something in the rubbish chute at the back of the estate, trying to work out what day it is.
Life keeps moving, and to try to stay still is like trying to hold grains of sand in your hand.

Learning to love yourself is not going to happen overnight – the first step is trying to be kinder and more patient with yourself, and I understand that it takes time.
Women oftentimes are the ones making those economic decisions, sitting around the kitchen table and trying to figure out how to pay for rising gas prices or food prices or the health insurance costs. And I think that they see where they expect their leaders in Congress to also make those tough decisions.
Globalisation means many other countries are asserting themselves and trying to take over leadership. Please don’t ask Americans to let others assume the leadership of human exploration. We can do wonderful science on the Moon, and wonderful commercial things. Then we can pack up and move on to Mars.
I keep trying to write happy endings, but my books always end on more of a bittersweet note of ambiguity.
My dad always taught me never to give up in my mind. You can never really beat me. It sounds ridiculous, but I will always come back for you. You can’t beat someone who never gives up. I could lose 100 times to you, but I will always get you. I will die trying. This applies not only to swimming but to my life as well.
I’m just trying to stay within myself every day and keep going.
I’m just trying to make a smudge on the collective unconscious.
I wake up and play a different person every day. And you start to see who you really are.
I’m trying to bring a new generation into the musical theater and to create a new audience.
I’m trying to construct a world that maximises the probability that SpaceX continues its mission without me.
Skill is successfully walking a tightrope between the twin towers of New York’s World Trade Center. Intelligence is not trying.
People assume that a self-portrait is narcissistic and you’re trying to reveal something about yourself: fantasies or autobiographical information. In fact, none of my work is about me or my private life.
All I’m trying to do is to keep going and keep evolving.
I don’t want to be anything other than what I’ve been trying to be lately.
War is big business. It’s a lot of money going to and fro, and unfortunately a lot of angst, and a lot of fear, and a lot of doubt. And eventually a lot of wonderful people, like soldiers, like men and women that are out there trying to do the best they can, they come back being wounded on many levels.
We either go one direction, left, which would be socialism. Or right, which would be people trying to make the money themselves.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.
When I write songs, when I sing songs, I don’t have anybody in mind. I’m just trying to express what I think people are feeling.
Art is, for me, the process of trying to wake up the soul. Because we live in an industrialized, fast-paced world that prefers that the soul remain asleep.
I created ‘You Can’t Stop Me’ without trying. There was nothing premeditated about that record.
The trap for an actor is that you become too successful at what you’re trying to do, and you can find yourself stuck there.
I don’t think I was a fine game coach. I’m trying to be honest. I think I was a good practice coach.
I often find myself writing about people taking care of each other, or trying to.
Don’t laugh at a youth for his affectations; he is only trying on one face after another to find a face of his own.
Like most fathers, I would do anything for my children, and I’ve worked very hard at trying to be a good father. I want to give them education, security, everything I never had.
How horrible, fantastic, incredible, it is that we should be digging trenches and trying on gas-masks here because of a quarrel in a faraway country between people of whom we know nothing.
We just have to try to play ball. We go week-to-week trying to find ways to win games. That is what it comes down to.
If you’re you, it doesn’t matter if you’re the most boring person in the world: someone will like you. You’re not trying to be anyone else.
For the first 50 years of your life the food industry is trying to make you fat. Then, the second 50 years, the pharmaceutical industry is treating you for everything.
Most of my hobbies involve athletics and outdoor activities. I’m willing to learn about anything and converse and pick people’s brains, and I ask people to do the same. I’m into learning anything new and trying new stuff.
I deal with creativity all the time. What I have fun with is trying to transform creativity into business reality all over the world. To do this, you have to be connected to innovators and designers but also make their ideas livable and concrete.
When I’ve done gymnastics, ballet or soccer – I was always trying to be the best. I’m really driven. Really driven.
Old habits die hard, and if you’re not careful, the person you used to be can overtake the person you’re trying to become.
Art doesn’t just happen by accident. It is about pulling out new tricks and trying new things.
Without understanding yourself, what is the use of trying to understand the world?
Ray Allen’s diet was insane. He was trying to break it down to me what he ate and how disciplined he tries to stay. When you’re a 21 year-old, you’re not used to that. He was doing Paleo and experimenting with all types of things.
I would like people to recognize in looking at my story that the person who has the most to do with what happens to you is you. It’s not the environment, it’s not the other people who were there trying to help you or trying to stop you. It’s what you decide to do and how much effort you put behind it.
I don’t want any title. I just say what I say, and hopefully somebody gets it, man. I’m not perfect, and I’m just here and trying to make a dollar, and being real at the same time, you know?

Remember that we are all human beings trying to do what we love to do.
I’m trying to raise the awareness of the troops that, when they deploy and go to war, it’s not just them at war – it’s also their family. Their family is having to go through all the hardships and the stresses.
Why is she Mrs. C.J. Walker? It really was a matter of her trying to insist that people respect her, because during that time, white people would call any black woman ‘Sally.’ ‘Aunt Sally.’ So this was like… you can’t call me that.
If we’re trying to build a world-class News Feed and a world-class messaging product and a world-class search product and a world-class ad system, and invent virtual reality and build drones, I can’t write every line of code. I can’t write any lines of code.
‘Veerey Ki Wedding’ is a comedy of errors in more ways than one. It’s one of those basic, perky comedies. We’re not trying to give out a message or anything.
People thought I was trying to say that women had no say, no rights. I was not saying that. I was saying that women had a role, a duty. When they want to have a say in government – though in Africa they are not expected to do that – they are not discouraged. They can do what they want to do.
They always say girls mature faster than boys, but I don’t think that’s true because I think girls just are more mature than boys. We’re always trying to catch up to them.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Trying times will begin when I will take up my second film as that’s when people will take me more seriously. I will have to prove myself too.
Us sing and dance, make faces and give flower bouquets, trying to be loved. You ever notice that trees do everything to git attention we do, except walk?

If you don’t make mistakes, you aren’t really trying.

I’m trying to spread positive vibes.
You can’t please everybody. You’d be crazy if you’re trying to. So take some time out to do some things for yourself.
I believe in believing. My coach John Kavanagh is a big atheist, and he is always trying to persuade people to his way of thinking, and I think, ‘What a waste of energy.’ If people want to believe in this god or that god, that’s fine by me; believe away. But I think we can be our own gods. I believe in myself.
Young dancers are training at a very vulnerable time in their lives, through adolescence, and while they are trying to work out who they are as people, never mind as a dancer. So train the whole person, not just the dancer.
I was taught to confront things you can’t avoid. Death is one of those things. To live in a society where you’re trying not to look at it is stupid because looking at death throws us back into life with more vigour and energy. The fact that flowers don’t last for ever makes them beautiful.
‘Pretty Lady’ is the conversation piece where you just need to compliment your lady. If you are in a club setting, and you just been eyeing a beautiful woman, this song came from me trying to compliment women and them turning their face up at me.
A lot of people change for good. Some people just fall off. Just trying to progress in anything, no matter what you’re doing, I feel like any progression you make… some people aren’t gonna be around you that were around you.
We need to internalize this idea of excellence. Not many folks spend a lot of time trying to be excellent.
Pressure is the single mom who is trying to scuffle and pay her rent. We get paid a lot of money to play a game. Don’t get me wrong: there are challenges. But to call it pressure is almost an insult to regular people.
You can say I’m not the easiest architect in the world, because I’m always trying to push the limits.
I think we all suffer from acute blindness at times. Life is a constant journey of trying to open your eyes. I’m just beginning my journey, and my eyes aren’t fully open yet.
Cyclists. I really hate them. I wish they would not be so self-righteous and realise they are a danger to pedestrians. I wish cyclists would not vindictively snap off wing mirrors on cars when they were trying to cross in front of the car at a danger to motorists and pedestrians.
If you’re trying to get out of debt, you have to be willing to treat everything as expendable.
How much energy is wasted in Italy in trying to write the novel that obeys all the rules. I was trying to make something really hard, but then I thought I should make something really soft instead, that could be molded into different shapes. That was how I came up with the first plastic. I called it Bakelite.

In my younger days, I was trying to write sophisticated prose and fantastic stories.

I’m not somebody that’s trying to be somebody else. I’m being myself for the most part and people respect that.
My success was due to good luck, hard work, and support and advice from friends and mentors. But most importantly, it depended on me to keep trying after I had failed.

The concept with Off-White is that I have no ideal target. It’s more about trying to make something for everyone. And I think that’s what helps make it unique. That there isn’t a specific muse.
You have to know the forces that are against you and that are trying to break you down. We talk about the problems facing the black community: the decimation of the black family; the mass incarceration of the black man; we’re talking about the brutality against black people from the police. The educational system.
I think any activity you have your kids in, you’re all trying to live vicariously through them. And you’re jealous of the kid that’s naturally more talented or has the facility, the body, the genes, or the God-given talent. People get jealous of that.
The attitude of the West and of Russia towards a crisis like Ukraine is diametrically different. The West is trying to establish the legality of any established border. For Russia, Ukraine is part of the Russian patrimony.

What I’m trying to say to girls is don’t let these guys be in your head.
When I’m on stage, I’m trying to do one thing: bring people joy. Just like church does. People don’t go to church to find trouble, they go there to lose it.
I have been running since I was 7. I was trying to restructure the way my body was made instead of trying to master the way I ran. I would get so frustrated with my starts in practices that I would just cry. When I ran, I wouldn’t even try to get out of the blocks, I would just run.
I’m just sittin here trying not to be unhappy.
What people want is their basic needs. So I’m trying to help people ensure their basic need: that means food security, healthcare, education, and job opportunity and a better life.

I like playing sport, and I like doing physical stuff. I like hiking and I like climbing and I like playing sport. I do a lot. But I don’t like the term ‘exercising.’ I feel like with sport, you’re playing games. But with exercise, you’re literally just trying to stop yourself from dying too young. It’s weird.
The thing is, we live in a contemporary world, and being able to make yourself the best person you can possible be can be difficult. But as long as you’re trying to figure it out, and you’re really looking in the right direction, everything’s going to be all right.
Everyone spends their lives trying to balance their world between good and evil.

We are not trying to entertain the critics. I’ll take my chances with the public.
I believe that all government is evil, and that trying to improve it is largely a waste of time.
When I try to appreciate something, it feels like my hands are around the moment, trying to squeeze it. It’s when you really release yourself of the responsibility to be enjoying things that you actually do.
Guarding your heart and protecting your dignity are a little bit more important than clarifying the emotions of someone who’s only texting you back three words. I’ve learned that from trying to figure out people who don’t deserve to be figured out.
It’s a long road, so we are just trying to stay focused and grounded and keep moving forward. I’ll take it, though.
When I wake up, I expect things to be good. If they’re not, then I try to set about trying to make them as good as I can ’cause I know I’m gonna have to live that day anyway. So why not try to make the most of it if you can? Some days, they pan out a little better than others, but you still gotta always just try.

One of my modeling bookers told me that the most important thing is to try to be vigilant about taking care of yourself. Get sleep, don’t be afraid to trim your hair even if you’re trying to grow it out, don’t bite your fingernails, and stay in shape. A lot of it is in the little things.
Men do not fail; they give up trying.

People think because I’ve got some success, I’ve made it, but in my eyes it’s like, ‘How long has Jay Z been in the business? How many albums has he got?’ Not that I’m trying to be Jay Z, but I am trying to be around for a long time.
My father once said, ‘If you’re in the desert and you’re dying of thirst, are you going to drink a glass of blood or are you going to drink a glass of water?’ I think what he was trying to say, interesting coming from my blood father, is sometimes there are people in your family that can be toxic.

Life is denied by lack of attention, whether it be to cleaning windows or trying to write a masterpiece.
Realistically, looks offer an advantage to an actor. I’m going to work hard to maintain my skin. I’m going to prevent aging as much as possible. And I will keep trying to become a better person on the inside as much as I spruce up the outside.

You don’t want to influence the same system you are trying to forecast.

President Obama seems completely unaware of how many of the policies he is trying to impose have been tried before, in many times and places around the world, and have failed time and again.
Hopefully, there’s a place in music for Tinted Windows. If we’re really trying to be iconic, we should just stop right now. If one of us could die, that would also help. But I don’t think anybody wants that gig.

Just really, really believe in what you’re trying to do. Don’t let people alter that. Let people advise you and lead you down paths to make smart business decisions. But trust your instinct and trust that overwhelming drive that made you put all your dreams and everything on the line.
I suppose I was interested in creating a vision; in the same way, I was very drawn to tension within cinema. Hitchcock was my other early obsession – ‘Psycho’ and its score. So there was the sense of trying to create an atmosphere: how a sound resonates and makes an effect.
I think health care is more about love than about most other things. If there isn’t at the core of this two human beings who have agreed to be in a relationship where one is trying to help relieve the suffering of another, which is love, you can’t get to the right answer here.
Forecasting our futures is built into our psyches because we will soon have to manage that future. We have no choice. No matter how often we fail, we can never stop trying.

I don’t feel that I’m explaining the world or teaching people anything. And I’m not trying to be a mirror, showing them what’s really going on the world. All I’m trying to do is think of stuff that’s funny, just like when I’m kidding around with my friends.

If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

I have lived with passion and in a hurry, trying to accomplish too many things. I never had time to think about my beliefs until my 28-year-old daughter Paula fell ill. She was in a coma for a year, and I took care of her at home until she died in my arms in December of 1992.
I’m trying to make the world a more open place.
The only way to learn a language properly, in fact, is to marry a man of that nationality. You get what they call in Europe a ‘sleeping dictionary.’ Of course, I have only been married five times, and I speak seven languages. I’m still trying to remember where I picked up the other two.

Some men say that they should be satisfied with the abolition of untouchability only, leaving the caste system alone. The aim of abolition of untouchability alone without trying to abolish the inequalities inherent in the caste system is a rather low aim.

It’s unbelievable. I’m still trying to grasp the whole idea that I am an actually a Stanford Cardinal now. I’m actually representing an alumni that’s network is around the world, and the people there are unbelievable.

I have pushed the boat out as far as I should in terms of taking on too many things. I’m getting older and I just could not take it any more. I am now monitoring myself very closely and I’m just trying not to get into that sort of state again.
I have been a big guy all my life, I am not going to lose a bunch of weight, because then you’re like that weird fat person that got skinny but still has a big head. I don’t want to do that. So I’m just trying.

Being able to live my life transparently does empower me to feel like I can be myself more. It’s easier for me to flirt with girls now that girls know that I’m gay. It almost makes it a sexier encounter than if I was trying to pretend that I was straight.

The problem with ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ was that it was designed to be a PG-13 movie. It was literally a horror movie for a younger generation. I was trying to do the film equivalent of teenage, young adult readers, and when they gave it an R rating, the movie couldn’t sustain an R.
